About the destination: Managua is the capital and the main commercial, industrial, and cultural center of Nicaragua. The city lies on the shores of Lake Managua. One of its best features is its surroundings: lakes, mountains, and volcanoes can be seen from all over the city, especially from the Tiscapa Lagoon viewpoint. Tiscapa Lagoon is a volcanic lagoon formed in the crater of the old Tiscapa Volcano, and it is one of the city’s most important sights. It is located between Old and New Managua. The old town center, on the lakeshore, is home to many of the city’s main attractions, including impressive colonial-style buildings, the Concha Acústica—a beautifully designed stage used for music festivals and public events—and the National Palace, an imposing neoclassical building on the Plaza de la Revolución. Nearby stands one of Managua’s signature landmarks, now in ruins: the impressive Old Cathedral, built in 1929. The shell of this neoclassical building still dominates the heart of the Monumental Area. Across from the Old Cathedral of Managua, facing the National Palace, is the National Museum, which displays numerous artifacts that tell the story of Nicaragua from prehistoric times to the present day, along with a collection of contemporary Nicaraguan art. Another major landmark is the Crowne Plaza Hotel, whose white silhouette, reminiscent of a Maya pyramid, rises above the city. Chaotic yet fascinating, Managua is a perfect base for exploring the nearby lagoons, the nature reserves of Montibelli and Chocoyero–El Brujo, some lively beaches such as Pochomil, and the hot springs at El Trapiche.

About the destination: Granada is a historic colonial city in western Nicaragua and the capital of the Granada Department. It is the country’s sixth most populous city and has long been one of Nicaragua’s key economic and political centers. Its rich colonial heritage is visible in its colorful architecture, churches, and traditional urban layout, earning it the nickname “La Gran Sultana” for its Moorish and Andalusian character. Main tourist attractions include: • Mombacho Volcano – Offers hiking through cloud forest at the summit, canopy zip‑line tours, and visits to coffee plantations and processing facilities. • Historic churches – The Cathedral, La Merced, Guadalupe, Xalteva, San Francisco, and María Auxiliadora, each with distinct history and varying states of preservation. • Fuerte La Pólvora – A historic fort with small exhibits, tower viewpoints over the city, and a peaceful interior courtyard. • Lake Cocibolca – A breezy lakeside area popular with local families, with vendors selling snacks and typical foods. • Centro Turístico – A park‑like lakeside zone with bars and restaurants, generally cleaner than the nearby public beach. • Central Park – The main square, framed by the Cathedral and elegant colonial houses, ideal for strolling and people‑watching. • Las Isletas – Small, scenic islands in Lake Cocibolca that can be explored by boat. • Mi Museo – A museum showcasing regional archaeology and local history.
