3. Tenorio Volcano National Park
Stay
About the destination: Tenorio Volcano National Park is a protected area in northern Costa Rica, within the Arenal-Tempisque Conservation Area. Its centerpiece is Tenorio Volcano, incorporated into the park in 1995 and located about 26 miles northeast of the town of La Fortuna in Guanacaste Province. The park is famous for the Rio Celeste, whose striking blue color results from volcanic sulfur emissions and calcium carbonate precipitation. The landscape features thermal springs, small geysers, rivers, waterfalls, lagoons, and scenic viewpoints. Primary cloud forest dominates the upper elevations, while lush rainforest covers the lower areas. Wildlife includes Baird’s tapir and the elusive puma. A ranger station at the base of the volcano provides visitors with basic information. The summit of Tenorio Volcano can be reached via the Lago Las Dantas Trail, which climbs through forested terrain to the peak. Tenorio Volcano National Park borders Tenorio Valley Nature Reserve, a former cattle ranch rewilded in 2004. The reserve’s 20-acre wetland is the only known habitat of the Tapir Valley tree frog.

Stay
About the destination: Rincón de la Vieja is an active andesitic complex volcano located in the northwestern part of Costa Rica, approximately 25 km from Liberia, in the province of Guanacaste. The name translates to "The Old Woman's Corner," which is a nod to a local legend about a young woman whose lover was thrown into the volcano's crater by her father. Following this event, she chose to live in solitude on the mountain and was believed to possess healing powers. Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park is centered around the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and its surrounding volcanic and natural features. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of unique plants and animals, as well as numerous hot, bubbling sulphurous mud pits and a small "mini-volcano."

6. Manuel Antonio
Stay
About the destination: Manuel Antonio is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Costa Rica. Located in the Central Pacific region, it is known for its beautiful beaches and rich wildlife. Manuel Antonio Village is the perfect base for visiting Manuel Antonio National Park, the main reason people come to this town. The village is small and charming, with good shopping, dining, and lodging options. Although it is Costa Rica’s smallest national park, Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most beautiful and biodiverse areas in the country. It offers a stunning combination of rainforest, beaches, and coral reefs. Its beaches are among the most beautiful in Costa Rica. The forest is home to sloths, iguanas, howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, and the rare squirrel monkeys. One of the park’s special features is Cathedral Point. With its forest-topped cliffs, this peninsula was once an island but is now connected to the mainland by a thin strip of land. This natural land bridge forms the spine that separates the park’s two most popular beaches: Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel Antonio. Welcome to Costa Rica’s untouched tropical paradise.
